This PhD is focused on adaptive reuse in architecture. It researches the studio’s introduction into working with existing buildings and how conversations between architect, client and the existing build a tri-polar relationship that informs an attitude towards the host building.
For the final examination, Eva Prats displayed the research material related to the three projects in focus, in the form of an exhibition located in La Favorita, an abandoned factory in the neighbourhood of Poblenou. The PhD panel followed Eva’s explanation of both the research and the exhibition. At the end of this visit, the panel and the candidate held a discussion on the topic of adaptive reuse. Five of the documents in the exhibition were created in response to questions that arose during different Practice Research Symposiums, and some of them were part of the studio’s participation in the Venice Architecture Biennale 2018.
