Expo John Hejduk
- Associated book John Hejduk, House for a Poet Edicions UPC, 2000
The exhibit explains the experience of the workshop INVITACIONES, as part of the Màster “Arquitectura. Crítica y Proyecto”, that took place in June 1999 at the Escola d’Arquitectura del Vallès. John Hejduk proposed as theme for the workshop to build a model at 1 to 3 scale of the Working Room (House for a Poet) for his un-built project Casa Guardiola, for Cadiz in 1989.
The construction of models had been themed to reproduce, not just the building, but its construction as web. The importance of this work consists of the process, and the different decisions that have to be taken to build it.
To choose an un-built project in order to try to construct it in a 1 to 3 scale model, seems a method of special interest as a way to confront the decisions on how to built something: it is the most concrete way to get close to the construction of a building, and to the problems that a builder will have to solve.
The exhibition presents the development of the workshop, from the definition of the theme by John Hejduk and the letter with the necessary documents for its realisation, until the construction of a room and its assemblage at the Barceloneta Beach in Barcelona on the 5th of July, 1999.
