House in Regencós
- Project referenced in ‘Construire Sul Construito’, 2023 (ITALIANO / ENGLISH)
The origin of this farmhouse is linked to the existence of a water mill that used a drift of the current from a neighboring torrent. Currently, this construction is still in its place, half in ruins. The farmhouse was expanded and renovated in the seventies by the team of MBM architects as a weekend home.
The current project intends to adapt the house to live longer periods and at the same time to accommodate a more active social life. The intervention plans an improvement in the functionality of the house, avoiding unevenness and gaining height in some of the vaulted rooms that still maintain the original height from when they were used for animal stables.
The first operations have sought to evince the constructive and spatial qualities of the oldest parts of the house, with ceramic brick vaults and thick stone walls. These pieces will be occupied by the most active and social parts: the kitchen, the dining room, the cinema room and the distributor hall.
The topography around the house has been restored in order to recover the most direct relationship it had with the old mill. So, we have excavated parts of land to return the original height to the oldest corner of the house and the descent towards the water pool of the mill has also been designed with a greater dimension.
