SAINT STOMAK at EL BULLI
October 2020
Collaboration with the Catalan artist Antoni Miralda for the design and fabrication of a second version of Saint Stomak, after the first one designed and installed in 2014 at Food Cultura Satellite in La Boqueria Market, now at the artist’s studio. The shrine receives offerings to the Saint, and is activated once a year, each 16th of October, to celebrate the international digestion’s day.
After a recent invitation from the renowned chef Ferran Adrià, Miralda decided to create a second version of the shrine for the new restaurant – museum elBulli1846. This new shrine is installed at the storage room of the restaurant, transforming and renaming this space as Pantry – Chapel where offerings will be made to the patron of the digestion.
The shrine for elBulli1846 is designed from the same ex-voto used for the first Saint Stomak at La Boqueria, but it takes a much more monumental form. It is built with wooden structure, interior led illumination, glass shelves with and tea spoons as knobs. It is finished with gold paper and the image of the original ex-voto.
On the 16th October 2020 the Pantry – Chapel was inaugurated by the celebration of Saint Stomak, ritual involving the gastric broth (Jerez Wine).
