A square and two roads
The aim of the proposal is to rebuild a neighbourhood, recognizing the qualities that the site presents today and combining these with its historical memory. The proposal values Vallcarca’s condition of an unfinished city, located at the limits between the compact city and nature, and takes advantage of the potential contained in this alternation of buildings and vegetation.
As a principle for the project, nothing is to be demolished. Everything will be used as a base for the future neighbourhood. It is a project of physical repair which, as a consequence will also involve social repair and the recuperation of a feeling of neighbourhood and belonging.
The proposal is therefore born from the observation of the territory – of the traces from the past still present today in Vallcarca – and from listening to its neighbours.
Based on the recognition of the territory and its people, the proposal creates an urban structure in continuity with the memories and experiences of the neighbours. The proposal focuses on three aspects:
- Creating a new centre: The square of Vallcarca.
- A crossing of neighbour circulations.
- New communities that arise from the specific conditions of the place.
