- First Prize in Public Competition and commissioning to develop the Urban Plan
- Silver medal at the 3rd Bienal International de Urbanismo de Buenos Aires, April 2000
A public competition was organized to give ideas for the rehabilitation and renovation of the old part of the town. A lot of the old houses had been abandoned and there were some problems of social marginality. The city was growing towards other areas, and there was no interest of the citizens to live inside the old town.
The necessity for a new plan to give the criteria of how to start a methodical renovation of the built environment and the public spaces was almost an emergency. It was necessary to define new programmes, to control the presence of the car in the small streets, to catalogue some interesting elements in the area, and most of all, to preserve the special lay out of the streets and urban pattern. It was here that the richness of the area existed, where one could read the evolution of the place through the centuries.
All the work went on with the aim of returning the old town to become an active part of the city.
