This series of interviews starts by taking a look at Flores & Prats’ work process, visiting the studio and going through its curiosities, details and the everyday life. Projects are explained through the drawings and models displayed on the walls and nooks and through the boxes around the hallway that serve as containers of previous projects and their process.
The first part commences with a focus on the beginnings of the practice after working in Miralles’s studio, the view of Barcelona in a post-Olympic moment and the double exhibition in Copenhagen as a reflection of the consolidation of the studio’s work nowadays, also being a showcase of the design and thinking process.
In the second part of the interview, a sketch is drawn to show a personal view of the city, explaining an underwater Barcelona through Gaudí’s work. This is followed by a series of reflections about the city through the views from the terrace of the studio, the observation of fragments of life, fragments of Barcelona, that appear on Part 3. The focus of the interview is taken from the indoors to the outdoors, from the interior of the studio to its relationship with the city and its nearby context, walking around the street on their way to visit the construction site of the Theatre Sala Beckett, explained on Part 4.
The transformation of the former building Cooperativa Pau i Justícia into the new Theatre Sala Beckett is used to explain an interest in preserving the historical scene, the respect for the existing and the importance of craftsmanship. It also establishes a connection with the ways of working of the studio and of Sala Beckett, as creative entities where the process is given major importance, prioritizing the research and the artistic aspect of their practice.
